REGISTRAR The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, State Art Museum of Florida, Florida State University, seeks a Registrar, #3264. The Ringling Collection includes a world-renowned Museum of Art, Circus Museum, Historic Asolo Theater, Tibbals Learning Center, and  Cŕ d' Zan, the 1926 Venetian Gothic winter home of John and Mable Ringling.  A new Education Center and Galleries will open late 2006/early 2007. The Registrar is responsible for the administration and management of the Museum's Registration Department.  Position supervises two full-time staff, coordinates the logistical requirements of national and international traveling exhibitions and incoming and outgoing loans, including insurance and transportation, condition reporting, loan requests, crating, etc.  Contributes to the education activities of the Museum.  Supervises the development of electronic files and retrieval system and hard copy files on the collection and assures the accuracy of all records.  Works with the Museum Library, Office of Technology Integration, and Curatorial Department in overseeing the management of The Museum System electronic collection database.  Manages annual inventory of the collection.  Participates in other areas of Museum exhibitions and operations including disaster planning, digitization and photography of the collections, and security of the collections.  Must have knowledge of history of American and European art as well as all aspects of collections management, duties of the registration office, including museum ethics and art law, art handling experience, and excellent interpersonal skills and institutional team approach.  M.A. in Art History, Museum Studies, or Collections Management, or comparable experience.  At least five to seven years' managerial experience preferred.  Fingerprinting required and must be able to lift up to 45 lbs. and walk distances.
