Good afternoon, MuseumLers – The coloration/pigment in the light blue Ethafoam™ is added to the melted polyethylene before it is extruded/blown with gases to form the solid (plank, tubes, etc.). So it is extremely stable in terms of crocking (rubbing) and bleeding/running (moving if water introduced). You do have to investigate other ‘colors’ like pink as that one is specifically engineered for anti-static properties. Oddy testing is always a wise decision to make sure that any other additives to the melt won’t cause problems with artifact storage.

…experience with light blue Ethafoam? Another department donated a bunch to us, and I'd like to use it for long-term artifact storage as it is really soft and nice. This datasheet <http://www.qualityfoam.com/docs/ethafoam-180.pdf> from Dow suggests that light blue foam is no different than the white. No color was seen to transfer when rubbed vigorously on white paper, and we plan to do an Oddy test tomorrow. Any thoughts are welcome. …

Regards,

Meg
