Since no one has yet mentioned them, here is my plug for

The McCord Museum, associated with McGill University (my alma mater) with a
wonderful collection and exhibits primarily related to Canadian history.
Yes, Virginia, there IS a Canadian history, and it is NOT the same of that
of the neighbour to the south (and northwest - get off my back, you
Alaskans!)

The David M. Stewart Museum, also primarily Canadian history, though with a
unique collection and interest in Canadian military history is not to be
missed.

Montreal also has one of the finest botanical gardens in Canada. It is WELL
worth a visit, at any time of the year.

Do NOT waste your time on the dreadfully revisionist, not to say
politicized, museum of Old Montreal, located a block or so west of Pointe La
Calliere - itself one of the most interesting institutions I have visited
anywhere in the world.

Enjoy Montreal's wonderful restaurants, especially its delis, all featuring
"Montreal-style (Rumanian, actually) smoked meat" - Ben's, Dunn's and the
incomparable Schwartz's. There is also Chenoy's but it is now out on the
Lakeshore and quite inaccessible. If you like seafood, go to Chez Pauze - I
have always thought it to be one of the three best seafood restaurants in
Canada (the others are in Vancouver and Halifax) - on a par with the
original edition of the Old Union Oyster House in Boston.

"Idler, go to the ant.
Ponder her ways and grow wise."

the Canadian Centre for Architecture opened to the public in 1990 - in an
architecturally-stunning building constructed around a historic mansion and
home to one of the world's most significant collections of architectural
photographs, drawings, archives, etc.
