MUSEUM to Review Collections Management

                With a $1775 grant from the American Association of
Museums and the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services, the
Alutiiq Museum will under take a professional review of its collections
management practices.  The grant will provide for an outside reviewer to
travel to Kodiak to meet with the museum's board and staff members to
discuss the policies and procedures that guide collections care.  The
review will cover a wide variety of practices from acquisitions and
record keeping, to disaster planning.

                According to Collections Manager Elizabeth Eufemio,
"This is an important step in gaining National Museum Accreditation for
the Alutiiq Museum, and a central part of our efforts to insure the
finest care for Alutiiq objects.  Past reviews of conservation practices
and museum administration have helped us tremendously.  We look forward
to this review and the constructive suggestions it will bring.

                The Alutiiq Museum is a non-profit organization governed
by representatives of Kodiak's Alutiiq corporations, with funding from
charitable contributions, memberships,grants and sales.  The museum is
located at 215 Mission Road, Suite 101 in Kodiak, Alaska.  Current hours
