RRM Foundations Position Description


Director of Exhibits & Programs

Department:  McCormick Museum Foundation	Status:  Exempt

Supervisor: Executive Director	Effective Date: 1/11/07

Location: Chicago


Principal Function
Responsible for the development and management of the museum’s permanent 
and temporary exhibitions, develop programs, activities, outreach and 
educational efforts which attract and impact a variety of audiences, including 
school groups.

Responsibilities


1.	Lead a cross-disciplinary team of professionals to keep the 
permanent exhibition contemporary and relevant, to include regular content 
modification, periodic exhibit modifications and annual capital improvements.

2.	Oversee the planning, development and implementation of the 
museum’s temporary exhibits to include coordinating with content specialists 
and exhibit design and fabrication professionals.  

3.	Identify, acquire and manage the museum’s use of artifacts, whether 
on loan from other institutions or those acquired for use.

4.	Develop a comprehensive program plan for a wide range of audiences 
from teachers and students to professional adults and families.

5.	Supervise public program staff including the manager of educational 
programs and volunteer coordinator.

6.	Monitor & measure public interaction and response to exhibits to 
determine adequacy and relevancy of exhibit content to maximize museum 
resources and visitor flow. 

7.	Maintain relationships with institutions to maximize opportunity for 
partnerships in programs and exhibits.

8.	Maintain professional relationships to stay abreast of current exhibit 
techniques and industry innovation.

9.	Work closely with the Director of Operations to ensure seamless and 
high quality support within budget and operating parameters.

10.	Work closely with the Communications Director to ensure appropriate 
marketing of programs and exhibits.

11.	Other duties as assigned.


	Requirements

1.	Bachelor's degree required with a preference for museum study, 
advanced degree preferred.

2.	Five to ten years previous museum experience required with staff 
management positions and extensive exposure to all levels of museum 
operations. 

3.	Must have experience with exhibit design and art display.

4.	Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

5.	Marketing research and analysis skills, knowledge of performance 
management tools, 

6.	Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on working well with 
staff, the general public and senior management from RRM Foundations.

7.	Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.

8.	Computer proficient.
