Mission Statement: The General Henry Knox Museum is a not-for-profit
organization dedicated to maintaining Montpelier as a museum, fostering a
greater understanding and appreciation of General Knox's life and times, and
to providing educational, cultural and community events.

Executive Director:

The General Henry Knox Museum (www.knoxmuseum.org
<http://www.knoxmuseum.org/> ) seeks an Executive Director to lead the
institution and staff, located at Montpelier in Thomaston, Maine. Over the
past two years, The General Henry Knox Museum Board of Trustees has taken
steps to professionalize itself by adopting new by-laws, employing
professional staff, launching the Center for the Study of Early American
History, and completing Phase I of III of its Long Range Plan.

Position Description:

To achieve our Mission, the Executive Director supervises a growing staff,
works closely with the Board of Trustees and its committees, effectively
directs the energy and enthusiasm of members and volunteers, and engages the
diverse constituencies served by The Museum's programs.

The Executive Director is the ranking professional on the staff of The
Museum, and reports to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and serves as
the liaison between the staff and the Board.

The Board sets policy and the Executive Director oversees all daily
operations of The Museum. The Executive Director attends all meetings of the
Board. The Museum is committed to professional development; members of the
staff are encouraged to participate in outside educational and professional
activities whenever possible, within the constraints of time and budget.

Requirements:

Requirements for the position are a master's degree in museum studies,
history, American studies, or a related field, and five years of experience
in museum work, education, or fund-raising. Grant writing experience is
essential. As the public face (and voice) of The General Henry Knox Museum,
the Executive Director must have strong communication skills and the ability
to work effectively with a broad constituency of board officers and members,
volunteers, educators, researchers, town officials, business owners and
visitors. The Executive Director recruits, develops, supervises, and
evaluates the staff.

Salary is competitive, and is based upon experience and qualifications.

Please send a letter of interest, a resume, and the names and contact
information for three references by January 31, 2007 to: Executive Director
Search Committee, POB 394, Thomaston, Maine 04861, or email to
