JOB VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT



JOB TITLE:  Curator of Interpretation



REPORTS TO:  Assistant Director



SUMMARY OF POSITION:  Responsible for developing new public programs,
tours, workshops and classes targeting an adult population.  Supervise and
train Historic Adams House docents.  Oversee the management of the Historic
Adams House.  Research and write publications and serve as editor of DHI
publications.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      Produce history-based public programs for Deadwood History
properties; including themed parties, specialty tours and adult-oriented
workshops

2.      Create general and specialized tours for the Historic Adams House

3.      Supervise docents and train museum attendants to give tours and
monitor intellectual content of tours

4.      Oversee the management of the Historic Adams House

5.      Develop community education programs and coordinate programming
with exhibits, external affairs and youth education departments

6.      Explore partnerships with State Universities, including offering
teacher certification programs

7.      Research and write gallery guides

8.      Write grants to fund public programs

9.      Edit publications for grammar and content



SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      Write for the *Deadwood History Quarterly*

2.      Assist with special programs sponsored by DHI

3.      Other duties as assigned



QUALIFICATIONS:

To do this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each
essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are
representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  Reasonable

perform the essential functions.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in history, English or related field required.  Experience
in museum field is a plus.  Must have strong writing and speaking
skills.  Management
experience necessary.  Must be creative, enjoy working with public and be a
team player.



TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be capable of climbing several flights of stairs daily, and be able to
lift 20 pounds.  Expected to be able to sit, stand and walk alternately at
least 8 hours daily.  Must be able to see, speak and hear effectively (with
or without reasonable accommodations).



SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Full-time salaried position.  Health insurance and paid leave.  $25,000 to
$27,000 DOE.
