Hi Jennifer - You didn't mention what type of job you were planning on
taking in a large art museum. Getting a Masters in Art History may be good
if you are going curatorial track, but if you are pursuing a
registrarial/collections mgmt. position (of which there are certainly more
in large art museums) you probably want a graduate degree in Museum Studies
with a core in Art History. Before you get your graduate degree, make sure
you've volunteered/interned in the types of museums for which you want to
work later on. I like the "informational interview" idea that everyone has
been talking about.

Subject: Master's degree programs

Hi. I'm an undergraduate student in Museum Studies, and I am planning on
going to grad school for Art History. My goal is to work in a large art
musrum or gallery like the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Modern
Art, or even the National Gallery. Does anyone have any reccomandations for
good master's degree-granting art history programs? I'm looking for a state
supported school in a large-to-medium city (doesn't matter which state,
since out of state tuition is usually cheaper than any private school) Also,
what should I look for in a master's program? Thanks!
