Something else that isn't brought up much in museum job hunting discussions.
Beyond your skills and experience, the interview committee (often the museum
staff) is trying to make an assessment of your personality and if they want
to work with you every day. As we all know, a contentious staff indulging
in turf battles over their own little kingdoms can make going in to work a
chore, but a team of cheerful, good-humored folks pitching in and being
cooperative makes you look forward to going in to work. People often stay
in their positions for many years. And let's face it, museums attract some
quirky types. Good quirky and bad quirky.
Just another factor to consider.
