PROJECT MANAGER, UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA MUSEUMS

Museums and Collections Services (MACS) requires an energetic and
results-oriented individual to assume the challenge of managing Phase I
development of The Muse Project. The University of Alberta holds over 17
million museum objects housed in over 35 different collections across
campus. The Muse Project was conceived to share this important educational
resource with area teachers and students in grades 5 through 12. It will be
comprised of interactive discovery stations, placed at strategic indoor and
outdoor venues across the University's campus, on-line and print resources
and activities for teachers and students, and activity kits for use on
campus and in the classroom. If you excel at orchestrating, stimulating,
team building, and communicating within a creative and dynamic environment,
you are the person we need.

Working in a team-based environment, the Project Manager will report
directly to the Manager, Communication Program. Specific responsibilities
will include:
*       Manage project within time, financial and quality measurements;
*       Develop, monitor and adapt project plan and schedule;
* Oversee and coordinate the activities of project team members
(designers, educator, content developers, internet application developer)
* Facilitate communication activities (press kits, promotional
activities, web content) with audiences on campus and off;
* Plan and organize the launch of the first phase, and
* Perform other related duties as required.

The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary degree, with a minimum of two
years experience managing projects including exhibitions, major events, or
interpretive and communication projects. Working under a tight deadline, the
incumbent will have excellent skills related to project organization, people
management, verbal and written communication, and challenge resolution.
Knowledge of communication planning, exhibition development, and experience
managing complex projects including finance and administration is essential.
Experience working within - or an understanding of - a museum environment
would be beneficial.

This is a ten month contract position with a possibility of extension. The
salary will be commensurate with the incumbent's experience. Qualified
individuals should submit their resume and the names of three references by
2 January 2001 to:
