PROJECT MANAGER, UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA MUSEUMS Museums and Collections Services (MACS) requires an energetic and results-oriented individual to assume the challenge of managing Phase I development of The Muse Project. The University of Alberta holds over 17 million museum objects housed in over 35 different collections across campus. The Muse Project was conceived to share this important educational resource with area teachers and students in grades 5 through 12. It will be comprised of interactive discovery stations, placed at strategic indoor and outdoor venues across the University's campus, on-line and print resources and activities for teachers and students, and activity kits for use on campus and in the classroom. If you excel at orchestrating, stimulating, team building, and communicating within a creative and dynamic environment, you are the person we need. Working in a team-based environment, the Project Manager will report directly to the Manager, Communication Program. Specific responsibilities will include: * Manage project within time, financial and quality measurements; * Develop, monitor and adapt project plan and schedule; * Oversee and coordinate the activities of project team members (designers, educator, content developers, internet application developer) * Facilitate communication activities (press kits, promotional activities, web content) with audiences on campus and off; * Plan and organize the launch of the first phase, and * Perform other related duties as required. The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary degree, with a minimum of two years experience managing projects including exhibitions, major events, or interpretive and communication projects. Working under a tight deadline, the incumbent will have excellent skills related to project organization, people management, verbal and written communication, and challenge resolution. Knowledge of communication planning, exhibition development, and experience managing complex projects including finance and administration is essential. Experience working within - or an understanding of - a museum environment would be beneficial. This is a ten month contract position with a possibility of extension. The salary will be commensurate with the incumbent's experience.
