Communications Director, International Contemporary Art Gallery, New York

 

For our world-renowned New York-based Contemporary Art gallery client we are
seeking a Communications Director.  The successful candidate will be
responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive strategic,
content-rich and consistent communications narrative about the gallery, its
artists and exhibitions.  Reporting to the Gallery Director, the
Communications Director will plan, budget, create, execute and measure the
effectiveness of the gallery's public relations, press, media and marketing
initiatives in order to build and reinforce the gallery's profile and brand
to clients, the media and national and international audiences.   Duties
include providing innovative and strategic ways to position and develop the
gallery's brand; developing the communications plan and budget, including
analyzing ROI, key growth areas and savings; creating and delivering
marketing, branding, press outreach and programming initiatives; creating
and maintaining excellent relations with the press, critics and other
opinion makers; seeking out unique and high-profile media opportunities;
cultivating productive long-term partnerships with institutions, museums,
publications, international brands and other organizations and businesses;
overseeing Communications and Events staff to produce high quality, well
publicized and well attended events and other programming; work closely with
Artist Liaisons and Exhibitions teams to generate communications
opportunities for three locations; other duties as required.  

 

The ideal applicant will have 5 - 10 years Communications and Press
experience with an art gallery, auction house or public relations firm with
a focus on Contemporary Art; proven relationships with national and
international press and media; the ability to work independently, manage
projects, solve problems and manage and motivate staff; broad knowledge of
international Contemporary art; and excellent verbal and written
communications skills.  BA required.  An excellent executive-level position
for a proactive, innovative and flexible professional with a positive
