POSITION AVAILABLE: Docent & Tram Driver Coordinator

FLSA Salary Classification: Part-time, Non-exempt

Department:  External Affairs

General Summary: 
Supervise and manage the Arboretum's tram drivers and volunteer 
docents.  Organize, manage, and facilitate the recruitment, training, and 
evaluation of docents and tram tour guides to provide engaging and 
insightful Arboretum tours for visitors and groups.  Develop interesting 
and engaging topics for walking tours, tram tours, and specialty tours.

Job Qualifications:
Previous Training and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years experience in 
interpretation, a museum setting, or a formal educational environment.  
Must have a valid driver's license and excellent driving record (MVR check 
required).  Other necessary skills include: management and organizational 
skills, education training, and customer satisfaction.  Background in 
horticulture or botany is desirable.  Excellent written and oral 
communication skills are essential.  Must be able to manage a full schedule 
of training programs.

Physical/Mental Requirements
Must be energized and find satisfaction in working with the public, and 
possess an outgoing and friendly personality.  Requires a customer 
service-oriented individual who is able to relate effectively with people of 
various ages, cultural backgrounds, and levels of education.  Mature 
individual who has the ability to motivate, teach, and interpret, as well as 
accept responsibility and supervise volunteers and employees.  Good skills 
in planning, organization, and supervision required.  Flexibility in 
scheduling, including availability to work some evenings and holidays, and 
at least one weekend day during tour seasons.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in a combined indoor (60%) and outdoors (40%) 
setting. Requires some physical activity: lifting and carrying (up to 25 
lbs.); walking over all types of terrain; some travel by car.
