In NYC I would suggest:

Japan Society

Asia Society

And in San Francisco:

Asian Art Museum

The Morikami Museum, a living history museum of Japanese history and culture, may have interest. Unfortunately, I have no personal contact names to offer.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Japanese Ceramic Looking For A Great Home...

Dear List Serve:

I am attempting to find a great home for a certain Japanese ceramic piece that my institution does not deem relevant to our mission and my local institutions are of the same mind.

I would appreciate any suggestions of who might be interested in accepting this piece as part of their collection. The information is below.

Artist: Isoroku Yamamoto

Object: Painted plaque

Date: 1937

Materials: stoneware with polychrome

Notes from the incoming form indicate that this was painted by Admiral Yamamoto while on board the Chichibu Maru in 1937. Yamamoto was Naval Marshal General and Commander in Chief of the Japanese Combined Fleet during World War II.

Thank you,

Heather
