The reason that this request had so many people answering it may be simple.
Museum people, like reference librarians, delight in trivia and bizarre
information in their chosen field.
   Also, the practice of storing body parts in jars and other places has
occurred in many areas. General Santa Anna of Mexico had his leg (blown off in
a battle) buried separately with much pomp and ceremony. One of the
filibusters from the United States, (I forget which one), was executed by
Mexico and his head was exhibited in a jar for many years. And wasn't there
something lately about Napoleon's private parts in a jar? (How's that for
weird and bizarre information?!)
