Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Health Disparities Exhibit Update

Good Morning!

First, I appreciated all the suggestions andassistance the list serve participants offered in my quest for images /photographs on the topic of health disparities for an upcoming exhibit –I have written to most of you off-line. Many of your leads have been veryworthwhile! To refresh, the museum’s mission is to link public healthhistory with social justice issues. In this exhibit, we intend to explorethe historical challenges and social determinants on population health andhealth inequalities. As we continue to cast a broad net, we find we are alittle scant in Latino/Hispanic representation.

In looking for photograph, images, etc.,we thought we should first explore organizations in states that have alonger-standing (50+ years) generational history of Latino/Hispaniccommunities, such as New York, California,Chicago-area, New Mexico, others?). We thought therewould be a greater chance of finding and contacting organizations that mighthave a historic archive, and, in it, include events in that state thataddressed this topic, with subsequent documents (posters, flyers, photographs)in these states/areas. If we had access to explore this, we might findsomething meaningful to include in the exhibit on the topic. Again, Ireach out to you for assistance. Can you recommend an organization/college department/person I could contact that might help me with thissearch? (Just a reminder: we are not just covering the topic of medicalhealth care – we are also addressing how education, poverty, housing, the(toxic) environment, racial stressors, etc contribute to health disparities).

I remain very grateful for any assistanceyou can offer.

Best Regards,
Laurie Sedicino
