I'm not in our development department so I can't say what official policy
is, but I can tell you what I've observed. Membership gets you free
admission to the museum, discounts at the gift shops and cafe, and special
members-only events. The various donation drives (they seem to be more than
annual) get you a thank-you letter and your name in the annual report list
of donors.

There might be other benefits of which I'm unaware.

The development committee is debating the issue of annual giving vs. a
membership campaign. How does your museum distinguish a membership drive
from an annual giving appeal for unrestricted funds?
