When I was working at Drayton Hall managing a conservation project
three years ago (also an SAT project), we had great success working
with our statewide public television network (SC-ETV). They didn't do
the production, but they put us together with a producer with LOTS of
experience and helped us with some logistics. When the documentary
was ready for release, SC-ETV hosted a premier showing at Drayton
Hall, sent invitations to their top donors and ours, and really did
it right. The 20-minute documentary was shown across the state
several times and was on regular rotation on their HD channel. They
even made it available to public stations across the country, and we
later heard of it airing in Arizona and other places far away from
South Carolina. The production was a turn-key project that cost us
$60,000 for the 20-minute High Definition documentary, and it was
worth every penny. Drayton Hall retains the rights to the documentary
and all raw footage, with SC-ETV retaining the right to broadcast at
will (like we would not want them to broadcast it).
