Research Coordinator

 

Job Summary

The Park City Museum in Park City, Utah has an immediate opening for a
full-time Research Coordinator.  The successful candidate will oversee the
Hal Compton Research Library, facilitate all research requests, manage the
weekly Way We Were article, direct the Museum's oral history program and
fulfill all photo reprint orders.  He/she will also work to develop
collections of library material, manage digitization efforts of the
permanent collection and library, and work closely with the Curator to
secure reproduction rights and copyrights.

 

Job Description

Research

.         Answer all research requests received via email, phone and
in-person.

.         Provide research for in-house exhibits, publications and articles.

.         Compile and submit quarterly reports on research and photo order
numbers.

 

Library

.         Inventory, organize, catalog and manage the Research Library
collection of research materials, including books, magazines, newspapers,
maps and phone directories.

.         Update library research materials, finding aids and instructional
guides.

 

Photo Orders

.         Fulfill photograph reprint orders for Museum patrons.

.         Pull and scan photographs at high resolution, when needed.

.         Work with the Director to determine use and access permissions.

.         Secure required paperwork for all transactions.

 

Way We Were

.         Schedule, oversee, research, write and edit the weekly "Way We
Were" article published in the Park Record newspaper.

 

Digitization

.         Manage the Museum's digitization program (for both the permanent
collection and Research Library materials), working closely with the
Director to secure grants and the Curator to determine priorities.

.         Work with the Curator to secure copyright and resolve issues.

 

Oral Histories

.         Oversee maintenance and expansion of oral history collection.

.         Manage list of potential interviewees and conduct oral histories
using current best practices.

.         Oversee transcription and digitization of completed oral
histories.

 

Other Tasks

.         Assist the Curator with archival and photographic collections, as
needed.

.         Assist the Curator with exhibit text, design and installation, as
needed.

.         Update website (Research webpage).

.         Oversee collections/research volunteers and interns.

.         Help with front desk, Museum store, special events, talks, tours,
and collections, as needed.

.         Assist with other duties, as required.

 

Desired Qualifications:

*	Masters degree in Public History, Museum Studies, Library Science or
a related field. 
*	Minimum 2 - 3 years experience in museums, history libraries or
research.
*	Self-motivated with strong organizational, teamwork and
interpersonal skills.  Must work effectively with diverse groups to manage
information requests.
*	Excellent capacity to multi-task, juggle shifting priorities, and
meet demanding deadlines.  Expert time management skills required.
*	Skilled problem-solver, historical researcher, writer and editor.
*	Solid understanding of professional museum practices and procedures.
*	Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and
PastPerfect preferred.

 

Full-time position; will include some weekends, evenings, and special
events; will be required to stay until closing at 7:00 pm one night per
week, and work one Saturday per month.  Salary commensurate with experience.
