Executive Director / CEO
The Alberta Museums Association (AMA) has a tremendous career
opportunity for an individual who has distinguished himself or herself
in the heritage/non-profit/association field.
Reporting the AMA Board of Directors, the Executive Director/CEO is the
senior staff position of the Association. The individual will assume
full management responsibility for the Association's Secretariat and the
implementation and delivery of the AMA's nationally award-winning
programs and services.
The Executive Director/CEO has the following fundamental duties:
* Provide visioning and policy development support to the Board
* Provide monitoring reports to the Board on compliance with and
progress towards Board policies
* Provide strategic leadership to the Secretariat
* Direct and manage the human, financial and material resources of
the Association
* Act as the public voice of the Association
Qualifications
* An advanced degree in a museum-related, non-profit management or
other relevant discipline
* A minimum of five years of management experience in the
museum/heritage/cultural, non-profit, or association sectors
* Proven ability in managing human, financial and material
resources
* Proven ability in developing and implementing strategic plans
and policies that support organizational vision and mission
* Proven ability to work with a governing board, preferably in a
Policy Governance Model
* Proven ability to work with stakeholders, governments agencies
and the public
* Proven ability to undertake strategic advocacy initiatives
* Understanding of the Policy Governance Model is an asset
* Understanding of the current issues facing the
museum/heritage/cultural sectors in Alberta and Canada is an asset

Additional Considerations

The Alberta Museums Association
The Alberta Museums Association is the provincial organization of
museums and museum professionals in Alberta. We provide Advisory
Services, Learning Opportunities, an Annual Conference, publications,
and a Grants Program to our Institutional and Individual members. The
Association is governed by an elected board and the Secretariat is
managed by an Executive Director and six core staff. The Association was
founded in 1971 and has an annual operating budget of $2.1 million. For
