Assistant Editor
The Menil Collection
Houston, Texas

Considered one of the most important privately assembled collections of the
twentieth century, The Menil Collection houses approximately 17,000
paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, photographs, and rare books. In
addition to masterpieces of the twentieth century---including significant
Surrealist holdings---the museum is well represented with works from
antiquity; Byzantium and the medieval period; and cultures of Africa,
Oceania, and the American Pacific Northwest.

The Menil Collection is seeking an assistant editor to support the museum
publisher in the development and production of exhibition catalogues,
collections monographs, and ephemeral publications, and with the management
and distribution of Menil titles. The assistant editor’s responsibilities
will include researching, editing, proofreading, and fact-checking book
content; gathering and organizing research materials for authors; creating
and maintaining production schedules; managing ephemeral publications;
overseeing book inventory and internal distribution; and assisting with
day-to-day responsibilities of the department.

Qualifications: A master’s degree in English or Art History or two to four
years’ related editing experience is preferred. Excellent writing, editing,
research, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and a
working knowledge of art history are required.

Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience. Please
send your résumé, two writing samples, and a list of professional references
to: Human Resources, The Menil Collection, 1511 Branard Street, Houston,
Texas 77006.
