Assistant Editor The Menil Collection Houston, Texas Considered one of the most important privately assembled collections of the twentieth century, The Menil Collection houses approximately 17,000 paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, photographs, and rare books. In addition to masterpieces of the twentieth century---including significant Surrealist holdings---the museum is well represented with works from antiquity; Byzantium and the medieval period; and cultures of Africa, Oceania, and the American Pacific Northwest. The Menil Collection is seeking an assistant editor to support the museum publisher in the development and production of exhibition catalogues, collections monographs, and ephemeral publications, and with the management and distribution of Menil titles. The assistant editor’s responsibilities will include researching, editing, proofreading, and fact-checking book content; gathering and organizing research materials for authors; creating and maintaining production schedules; managing ephemeral publications; overseeing book inventory and internal distribution; and assisting with day-to-day responsibilities of the department. Qualifications: A master’s degree in English or Art History or two to four years’ related editing experience is preferred. Excellent writing, editing, research, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and a working knowledge of art history are required.
