Home to* *one of the nation’s finest collections of contemporary Native
American fine and traditional arts, The Heritage Center at Red Cloud Indian
School seeks a *Collections Manager* to document and preserve the
10,000-item permanent collection of The Heritage Center. As an integral
part of the department and reporting to the Curator, the Collections
Manager will undertake various duties related to management and
registration of the collection. S/he will also support the day-to-day
functions of the Curatorial Department. A bachelor’s degree in Museum
Studies, Art History or related field is highly preferred, or equivalent
combination of education and experience.  Experience in collections
management and art museum registration, knowledge of museum cataloging
procedures, and good verbal and written communications skills desired. A
working knowledge of NAGPRA preferred.


Essential Functions:

   - Maintain as necessary the proper environmental conditions for
   collections by regularly checking heating, cooling, humidity levels etc.
   for items in storage and on display, and alerting proper sources if adverse
   conditions develop.
   - Organize and maintain professional standards in collection storage
   areas.


   - Generate and maintain accurate records of all accessions, loans,
   transfers, conservation treatment, movement, damage/loss, removal and/or
   disposal of the Museum’s collections, according to professional museum
   standards, using the Mimsy software system.  Work closely with the Curator
   to correlate records for both archival and object collections.
   - Assist in the fulfillment of Rights and Reproductions requests.
   - Manage all logistics of incoming and outgoing loans, and traveling
   exhibitions. Track all movement of collections assuring exact location
   knowledge, including recording, labeling, packing, arranging shipping, and
   insurance coverage as necessary.


Additional Functions:

   - Create and manage computerized catalogue records, documentation
   images, and research files for collection objects.
   - Assist in installation and removal of exhibits, including creating
   condition reports, packing objects and arranging shipping.
   - Participate in the general activities of the Curatorial Department,
   including the supervision of interns, as may be required.
   - Other duties as assigned.
