how about metal and magnets? neither should hurt anything
thin fabric could cover the metal for decoration if you wish -- tape to hold
it on the back?
strong magnets will penetrate to work though such fabric.
many magnet choices in hardware and hobby stores
metal sheets come in all sizes, can even be easily custom cut to fancy
shapes and lengths
I have used a cookie sheet and also metal roof flashing for household
use
or
metal and cork fastened to it? Push pins will work great in cork and it is
inexpensive
cork comes in sheets of varying thickness and/or precut squares
you conservator persons can comment if cork is a no no
or
insulation foam board accepts push pins -- light weight but sturdy enough to
fasten on its own --
inexpensive-easily cut and replaced
again a conservator comment as to its problems if any?
