Kate: this is probably not the book you read several years back but you might
find this one interesting and related to the topic of 'museums and their role
in nation building.' Some of the chapters include: "Culture, Museums, and
Development in Africa" and "Culture, the Economy, and Development in Africa."

The Muse of Modernity: Essays on Culture as Development in Africa
Edited by Philip G. Altbach and Salah M. Hassan
Pub.: 1996, Africa World Press, Inc., Trenton, NJ and Asmara, Eritrea
ISBN: 0-86543-560-X (Cloth), 0-86543-561-8 (Paper)

Hope you find that useful,
Bill Lommel
