Informal Learning Experiences Announces Additional Date for
Professional Development Workshop:

Designing Experience-Based Learning Projects (description below)

December 4: The Tech Museum of Innovation, San Jose, CA
(December 3 is now full)

There are still openings in two additional sites:

Dec. 8: Arizona Science Center, Phoenix, AZ
Dec. 10: Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, San Diego, CA

This full-day, "hands-on" workshop addresses the design of experience-based
learning projects. It will be conducted seminar-style, with open discussion,
small group sessions, and hands-on exercises on the museum floor. The
workshop and manual provide participants with:

· An introduction to learning theories (Piaget, Dewey, Gardner, etc.) as they
apply to exhibit design and hands-on science activities,
· A framework for analyzing behaviors, experiences, and impacts of
interactive exhibits and activities,
· Practical guidance in designing interactive exhibits and activities,
· An introduction to project evaluation, and
· A manual with chapters on all workshop content, appendices with extensive
bibliographies and other informal education resources, and 50+ pages of
additional readings.

The workshop leader will give brief overviews of major concepts for each
segment of the workshop. The majority of the workshop schedule will be
devoted to three activities, conducted individually or in small groups:
critiquing "classic" interactive exhibits and supporting text/graphics,
recording observations and "evaluating" exhibits at the host site, and
designing a table-top interactive exhibit. The workshop has been conducted
in Boston, New York, and Baltimore. The current format is based on extensive
revisions resulting from participant feedback and evaluations.

Schedule and Registration

The workshop is held from 9:30 am to 4 pm at the host site. Coffee and
pastries and an afternoon break with refreshments are provided. The cost is
$135 for the first registrant from an institution and $125 for additional
registrants. You may register online at
<http://www.informallearning.com/data/startreg.asp>, download and fax the
form, or request a form via e-mail by replying to this e-mail or directing a
