One of my past employers had professional staff write out annual "goals
and objectives" at the beginning of each fiscal year and during the
annual performance evaluation measured progress against those goals.
The evaluation meeting also reviewed the employee's position description
and checked whether or not it was still valid, or if it needed to be
updated or fine-tuned. There was of course the dreaded evaluation form
but there was a different one for support staff vs. professional staff.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Museum employee evaluations
New director here. Wondering what methods exist - our current procedure
is merit-based (annual raises depend on score) and seems a bit too
generic. Employees are required to fill out a pre-evaluation
questionnaire about accomplishments, level of assistance they feel
they've gotten, responsibility focus, long-term goas, policy change
recommendations, areas for improvement, etc. The actual evaluation is
done by the director beforehand and is a 1-5 rated monstrosity with the
generic "makes effective decisions" and "dresses and grooms
appropriately".
This eval seems geared more to support staff and not the professional
staff... anyone want to share better methods?
