The University of Victoria is partnering once again with the
University of Zagreb to offer a unique six-day field study symposium
at the Inter University Centre in Dubrovnik, Croatia in May:

INTEGRATED USE OF CULTURAL HERITAGE:
WORKS OF ART AS HISTORICAL EVIDENCE IN CONSERVATION

Join participants and scholars from Europe and North American for this
intensive symposium and field course that examines historic paintings,
drawings, photographs, and media as records of the built and artifactual
environment. The unique educational setting provided by the Inter-University
Centre in Dubrovnik, and the wealth of local museums, galleries, and heritage
buildings throughout Dubrovnik provide a rich and memorable setting for
study. The symposium will address:
      * the iconography of landscapes, townscapes, historic buildings in art
      * architectural conservation and restoration through the analysis of
          works of art
      * identification of view points in landscapes: deviation, contortion,
and idealization of reality by the artists
      * tests of veracity
      * interdisciplinary research as a tool in establishing documentation values
      * museological interpretation in articulating heritage values in
           reconstruction work
