In light of recent events, the Southeastern Museums Conference is extending the deadline for applications for the Jekyll Island Management Institute (JIMI) to Friday, October 12, 2001.

This intense, hands-on institute, held at Jekyll Island, Georgia, receives very high marks from participants. The dates are January 22-29, 2002. Partial scholarships are available.

Topics to be covered include administration and trusteeship, human resources, fundraising, law and ethics, exhibits, marketing, working with consultants, collections management, archival management, exhibits, security and facilities, education and interpretation, financial management, and volunteers. Participants will also learn about their management styles through tests and activities. Participants will work on group project assignments and give presentations.

The institute is geared to museum professionals with subject area expertise who want to learn more about general museum administration and operations, and for administrators involved with new, small or developing museums. Applicants must have at least two years museum experience. Successful applicants will be notified by October 31, and tuition must be received by the SEMC Central Office by December 10.

Tuition will be $500, which includes all materials, opening reception, Continental breakfasts, breaks, and the final banquet. Rooms have been reserved at the beautiful seaside Beachview Club on Jekyll Island, Georgia. Single rooms will be approximately $550 for eight nights, and double rooms approximately $265 (taxes not included).
