Please see below the description for the Program in Museum Studies,
Graduate School of Arts and Science, New York University. For additional
information, please contact me off-list, or call us at 212-998-8080.

The Museum Studies Program is for students who aspire to professional
careers in today's museums as curators, educators, registrars, directors,
and administrators; it also prepares those already working in museums for
new responsibilities. There is training in both the practical and
theoretical aspects of museum work, "museology," and in the application of
skills and techniques of museum work, "museography."

Our courses cover major museum functions. Professionals today are
expected to have a knowledge of museum administration and organization,
development and fundraising, educational programming, collection
management, and exhibition planning and design. This is in addition to the
traditional functions of research and writing, collecting and connoisseurship.

We also offer four Master of Arts, for those interested in combining
formal museological training with an area of specialization. With a
concentration in Museum Studies, the Master of Arts in Near Eastern
Studies, Master of Arts in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Master of
Arts in Africana Studies, and Master of Arts in Hebrew and Judaic Studies,
are special 36-credit programs which may take three semesters to complete.

Internships are integral to professional training, and a student's
preferences and professional goals are important considerations in
individual placement.
