The Harvard University Art Museums announce an available position as
Curator of Islamic and Later Indian Art. Required/Preferred Education and
Experience: Ph.D. in art history or equivalent scholarship demonstrated in
publications. Minimum six years progressively responsible curatorial
experience; demonstrated record of scholarship and achievement in field.
Commitment to fostering appreciation and understanding of collection of
Islamic Art and Later Indian Art through teaching, lecturing, and
organizing exhibitions and educational programs. Excellent communication
and organizational skills essential.

Duties & Responsibilities: Responsible for the care, documentation,
research, presentation, publication and growth of the collection of Islamic
and Later Indian Art. Develops, maintains safely and in good order and
interprets the collection of Islamic and Later Indian Art. Organizes and
maintains areas in which the collection is stored. Trains and supervises
staff in the proper care of collections. Makes recommendations on and
oversees conservation of works in the collection. Recommends purchases and
solicits gifts for the collection. Conducts research on the collection and
publishes results of that research, and maintains collection records in
keeping with standard professional practices. Organizes exhibitions for the
Art Museums (including traveling shows) and works with the Administrator of
Design and Installation on their installation. Increases student and public
awareness and appreciation of the collection through educational programs,
lectures, teaching, docent training, exhibitions, museum publications and
other professional publications and activities. Assists and advises
students and the public about the collection. Assumes an active role in
soliciting funds for Museum purposes, including acquisition, exhibition,
conservation and publications from individuals, foundations, corporations,
and federal agencies.

The Harvard University Art Museums announce an available position as
Research Associate in the  Straus Center for Conservation.
Required/Preferred Education, Experience, Skills: Ph.D. in art history,
with interest in and knowledge of the technical analysis of objects; five
years of professional experience. Demonstrated research and writing skills
essential. Superior organizational and communications skills. Knowledge of
basic museum practices, procedures and standards. Ability to work
independently.

Duties & Responsibilities: Conducts research on objects in the collections
of the Art Museums or in special exhibitions displayed at HUAM and may
publish results of the research. Collaborates with curators and
conservators. Works with graduate and undergraduate students in the Fine
Arts Department on issues related to the Research Associate's areas of
expertise. Answers inquiries from students and scholars about the
collections. Contributes to the presentation of objects in galleries and
exhibitions. Replies to routine correspondence. NOTE: This is a two-year
appointment, with the possibility of an extension for a third year.
