I recommend such a hoary research strategy as going to your
academic library and using three indexing tools: _Reader's
Guide to Periodical Literature_, _Art Index_, and _New York
Times Index_. This last is used by knowledgeable researchers
not so much to find news coverage in the _NYT_ only, but to
temporally pinpoint newsworthy events globally.
