You textile people have been working overtime answering questions lately,
but I thought I'd add one more to the discussion.

I have a sign made from a single layer of muslin oilcloth, c. 1915-20, that
needs to be labeled with an accession number. My first instinct is to
baste the appropriate label to a lower back corner, but if I do it that
way, the stitches will appear from the front. Should I label this object
as I would another three-dimensional piece - i.e. B-72, indelible ink,
topcoat - instead?

Any advice would be appreciated.
