I would try Ethel alcohol. I have used it on many adhesives and it always
works, I sometimes put a plastic bag over the alcohol; to keep it from
evaporating.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Duct Tape Removal

I have several industrial objects from 1950-1960 that are painted metal.
About 6 or 7 years ago, duct tape was used to attach a piece of paper with
information to the artifact and has remained on the artifacts. In a few
cases, the recent attempt to remove the tape is peeling paint along with it.
Any suggestions for safe removal of the tape with minimal paint loss? Also,
what about the adhesive residue?
