Our Volunteer Coordinator holds several events during
the year to honor our volunteers.

In April, we have a Volunteer Recognition Dinner,
which is free for any volunteer who has worked 20
hours in a year, during National Volunteer Week in
April. Staff is also invited for free. New
volunteers pay for only the caterer's cost for their
dinner. We also have an awards ceremony that night
where we give out pins for 1, 5, 10, 15, and 20 years
of service. There is also a Director's Award,
Curator's Award, McKinley Award, and Volunteer of the
Year. We have some form of entertainment to top off
the evening. This year we added a slide show of all
of them, which went over very well!

We also have a Volunteer Enrichment Day in the fall,
where a staff member from each department gives a
short presentation on what we do, so that volunteers
in other departments can learn about other positions.
We have a guest speaker, a brief review of our
Emergency Plan, and then we break off into departments
to discuss upcoming plans for the year, policy
changes, etc.

For Christmas we have a covered dish luncheon with
volunteers and staff. Those are incredibly
successful, because everyone makes their best recipes!

At the end of our busy school tour season, our
Director of Education hosts a special thank you
luncheon for the docents in June. Our science center
holds a luncheon for their docents too. Our Shoppe
Manager sometimes holds a tea at her house thanking
her volunteers.

Volunteers recieve free memberships for 40 hours of
service. We also have at least one, sometimes two,
volunteer field trips to other area museums which
include special tours, lunch, etc.

As a result, our volunteers LOVE coming to the museum
to volunteer. Sign ups for every event we need them
for fill up fast. Our Volunteer Coordinator does a
wonderful job with them!
