Director of Development:  Preservation Virginia seeks qualified and
enthusiastic development officer to grow its fundraising effort.  Founded in
1889, the APVA is the nation's first statewide preservation association.
The individual will identify, cultivate and develop fundraising strategies
to expand the giving program through membership, planned and major gifts as
well as the Annual Fund program.  The candidate will supervise an office of
two and work with the board and statewide network of branches.  The
candidate will work directly with the Executive Director and in coordination
with the management staff. 

 

Skills required include:  minimum of five years of demonstrated success in a
broad range of development programs including annual fund and planned
giving; excellent communication and writing skills and management of staff
and volunteer and attention to detail.  Preference will be given to those
with experience in public and private sector funding, planned giving,
campaigns and statewide and national donor constituencies.  See

The director of development is responsible for designing, implementing and
managing the various fund-raising programs. The director reports to the
executive director and supports the Board and Development Committee.

 

Duties of the position include:

 

Participating with the senior management team to identify needs and
opportunities for support,

 

Identifying, cultivating and soliciting fundraised support by developing and
maintaining relationships with individuals, foundations corporations, and
public agencies that produces support for the organization and its programs
and services,

 

Formulating fundraising strategies to ensure proper acknowledgement,
recognition and stewardship of donors on all levels,

 

Managing annual giving for the organization with a focus on the major gift
level,

 

Identifying, researching and coordinating grant opportunities with the
program staff to support specific aspects of operations and programs,

 

Planning and executing special and cultivation events,

 

Managing and expanding the organization's planned giving initiative,

 

Developing materials related to the fundraising effort including campaign
materials, case statements, brochures and other development literature, as
well as supporting other communications to members and supporters including
E-News, Annual Report and Ventures,

 

Evaluating the effectiveness of development programs by generating giving
reports and conducting comparative analysis,

 

Assisting in the preparation of the annual budget and goal evaluation,

 

Participating in professional development and community organizations,

 

Managing the integrity of the membership and donor database,

 

 And other activities as needed or assigned.
