Job Description:  Curriculum & Professional Development Coordinator

*       Dakota Science Center is seeking a full time Curriculum
Coordinator/
Professional Development Coordinator to provide consistency and
coordination of curricula development, and to define, plan and oversee
the implementation of a comprehensive educator professional development
program for K-12 educators in schools, museums, libraries, and the state
park system. Our mission is service to children, youth, families,
teachers and the general curious public in a science museum setting, so
all applicants should be excited by and at ease in working with these
groups.

*       The successful applicant will work with the Executive Director,
writers of on and off-line curriculum modules (in the areas of science,
environmental studies, and history), various program, educators around
the state and across the nation, students, and representatives of higher
education.  This individual will be responsible for the coordination,
quality control and consistency of curriculum development, and the
smooth implementation of related professional development workshops,
seminars, and both on and off-line teaching mediums.  A large proportion
of the curricula and professional development opportunities are web
based, with hard copy curricula, and auxiliary kits and exhibits
providing extensions of the on-line curricula and opportunities for
authentic, hands-on learning .

Qualifications:
*       2-3 years experience in curriculum coordination, preferably in a
world
                wide web based curriculum project.
*       Expertise in technology integration in K-12 curriculum in
multiple
                curriculum areas.
*       Understanding of curriculum and assessment related to national
                standards in science, history, SCANS, and technology.
*       Excellent training, facilitation and writing skills.
*       Experience working with teams of educators in schools, museums,
                libraries and parks, and designing and delivering staff development
                programs.
*       Holder of a current teaching certificate is preferred but not
                required.
*       3-5 years administrative experience preferred.
*       Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction preferred.
*       Expertise in conducting workshops for educators in basic
hardware and
                software applications as well as integration of technology into
                curriculum in both schools and informal learning environments.
*       Expertise in the use of educational technology is expected.
*       Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in one of
more
                of the following areas: science, history/social studies,
                engineering/physics or technology.
