*Department:* Exhibitions
*Position Status: *Full-time
*Reports to:* Director of Exhibits

*General Statement: *
**As a member of the Exhibitions Department, the Graphic Designer is
responsible for the design, production, and maintenance of the Museum’s
graphics and website. The Graphic Designer will also complete projects for
other departments in the Museum as assigned by the Director of Exhibits.
*
Primary duties and responsibilities:*

*Departmental tasks*

   - Update and maintain departmental archives and handbook
   - Maintain vendor contacts and periodically re-evaluate pricing
   - Keep up-to-date with the latest theory, techniques, and technology
   - Assist Director of Exhibits in developing budgets and timelines


*Project-based tasks*

   - Design and produce printed and digital collateral for all departments,
   including but not limited to the quarterlyDiscovery newsletter, marketing,
   educational materials, logos and graphic elements for exhibits and special
   events, facility signage, and ID badges, business cards and office signage.
   - Handle post-production work such as mounting and cutting signs, labels,
   and miscellaneous projects
   - Maintain website, design web graphics, and keep content up-to-date
   - Collaborate with Balboa Park Online Collaborative regarding operation
   of website


*Experience, education, or skills required:*

   - Candidate must be a positive, detail oriented, and an independent
   worker.
   - Candidate should hold a BA in graphic arts, graphic design, or related
   field with at least 3 years experience in professional graphic design work
   (print, web and multimedia).
   - Preferred candidate would have a working knowledge of Adobe Creative
   Suite, content management systems (Drupal preferred), HTML, digital asset
   management and multimedia software and have the ability to lift heavy
   supplies (25 lbs.).
   - An advanced degree graphic arts and design is preferred.
