Let me say first that you have a fascinating topic!

I used  a GIS for a bioanthropology paper I gave with my advisor on
African American population migration in the States. It seemed like a
relatively new topic to the audience when I gave the paper (I think in
1996).  While I know GIS is used more readily in historical archaeology
and agriculture to predict crop production, and I have seen it as the
topic of professional papers, I have not seen an exhibit in a museum. I
do know a number of people using GIS.  If that is helpful why don't you
