Rhonda,
I'm not sure I understand what you mean...." The nomenclature should reflect the collection it belongs to as well."

Revised Nomenclature is an identification system based on the use of the object. It does not have anything to do with the objects relation to a larger collection. This item is a souvenir or novelty gift from a sporting event but has nothing to do with the sport itself. Therefore, it's use is to document or remember an event which means it would be in a documentary category. Depending on whether you are using Nomenclature 2.0 or 3.0 will determine the exact category since documentary artifacts was expanded in the latest revision.

Just because you got an item with a specific collection from a donor, source or event, you still have to look at its use to determine its classification. Collections should have their own notations separate from its name and classification. As an example, a souvenir football (not for use as a sporting item) should not technically be in sporting equipment since its use was always as a souvenir or memorabilia item where a signed football from the game might be classified as either a souvenir or as a sporting equipment item (depending on if is use changed)

I like Lois's answer! However, wouldn't it go into the category of recreational equipment or personal artifacts? The nomenclature should reflect the collection it belongs to as well. If this is a personal collection not related to sports using personal artifacts would be the way I would go. If it is a collection of sporting memorabilia I would go with recreational equipment.

Today's challenge: How would you classify a plastic-foam "tomahawk" sold to ballgame attendees to wave around during the game? And what would you call it?

I thought it might go in Personal Symbol, but there's nothing similar listed.

The only naming possibility I've come up with is "souvenir."

Any thoughts?
