For clarification.

I am a certified teacher who, at her own expense, take CE courses to keep up
my license. I pay for my own education.

My point was that many companies put aside some money for education, but it
is not always available when the time comes to use it.

Maybe my question should have been "how do we know how much is there and what
guidelines are in place in order to receive these benefits?" To the best of
my knowledge we have nothing. My supervisor just said, no funding available.

Isn't it just as much a choice to seek out additional funding for furthering
my education?
