Midwest Art Conservation Center's Saturday Workshop Series Starts Soon!

 

A new series of public workshops have become part of MACC's fall lineup.
Four workshops will be available starting in October which will provide
instruction to professionals of art institutions, private collectors,
artists, and students on the care of art on paper and paintings. 

The new workshop series will take place on four Saturdays throughout the
fall.  MACC Preservation Services has designed these workshops for staff at
cultural institutions, private collectors, and businesses dealing with works
on paper and / or paintings collections.  The workshop will take place at
the Minneapolis Institute of Arts in Minneapolis, MN.  Participants can
contact MACC to register.

October 18 The Care and Handling of Paintings: A practicum on applying
backing boards and proper cleaning techniques, how to examine a painting for
potential purchase or to determine if conservation is needed, and
exhibition, storage and handling advice.  Discussions are to include
participants' specific questions on items in their care.

November 1 The Care and Handling of Works on Paper: A practicum on the
technique of dry cleaning, how to examine works on paper for potential
purchase or to determine if conservation is needed, and proper care in
exhibition, storage, and handling advice. Discussions are to include
participants' specific questions on items in their care.

November 15 Matting Works on Paper: A practicum on measuring and cutting
mats; hinging and other attachment procedures. Participants are asked to
bring an item from their collection of 11x14 or smaller.  This item will be
hinged and matted by the participant as a final result of the workshop.

December 6 Framing Paintings and Works on Paper: Choosing the proper frame
and application techniques, examples of framing hardware and glazing, and
cushioning frame rabbets.

The fee for each full day workshop will be $245.  MACC members receive a 20%
discount.  Other discounts are available to small institutions and currently
enrolled students.  A further 20% will be taken off the total for those who
register for all four workshops in the series.

Midwest Art Conservation Center is a nonprofit regional center for the
preservation and conservation of art and artifacts providing treatment,
education and training for museums, historical societies, libraries, and
other cultural institutions. The MACC Preservation Services Department can
