Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum is offering two paid collections
internships for the summer of 2006. Vesterheim, located in Decorah, IA,
embodies the living heritage of Norwegian immigrants to America. The Museum
houses over 24,000 artifacts, which include large samplings from the fine,
decorative, and folk arts, and the tools and machinery of early agriculture,
lumbering, and other immigrant industries.
Interns will work directly on a collections relocation project funded by the
National Endowment for the Humanities and the Vision Iowa Program. The
project entails the inventory, transport, condition reporting, photography,
and documentation of 10,000 objects to be housed in the newly renovated
Bauder-Landsgard Collection Study Center. Ideal candidates should have
interest, knowledge, or experience with handling historic artifacts in a
museum setting, and they should have completed some course work in museum
studies. Working hours are 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday. Stipend is $2500 for 10
weeks. Mail resume or curriculum vitae and cover letter to Adam Lovell,
Collections Specialist, Vesterheim Museum, 523 West Water St, Decorah, IA
52101 or email to [log in to unmask] Deadline is March 31.
