What Makes Historic House Tours so Boring - Comment from Luthuli Museum

Our site is the former home Chief Albert Luthuli, Africa's first Nobel
Peace Laureate and president of the African National Congress from 1952
to 1967. Visitors have often described our tours as "a moving
experience" or as "awe-inspiring". We believe that part of the appeal
lies in the story of Chief Luthuli's extraordinary life - his humility,
self-sacrifice and commitment to democracy, non-violence, non-racialism
and women's rights. Our tour guides have a genuine interest and passion
in the legacy of Chief Luthuli and share many delightful anecdotes with
visitors. A life-size waxwork figure of Chief Luthuli, seated at a desk
at the entrance to the house, always takes visitors by surprise.
Recordings of speeches by Chief Luthuli further enhance the atmosphere
of the house which has a comprehensive exhibition on Chief Luthuli's
life. The tranquil garden of the house and its location against a
backdrop of rolling green hills and sugar-cane fields of KwaZulu-Natal
add to the charm of the Luthuli Museum.

Visitors to the Luthuli Museum always comment that the staff are very
welcoming and receive visitors with genuine warmth. The staff also
treats their interaction with the public as an opportunity to network,
build partnerships and learn from visitors. Because the staff makes
every visitor feel very special for choosing to visit the Luthuli Museum
many visitors have become personal ambassadors for the Luthuli Museum.
The staff regards relationship building as an integral part of their job
at the museum.
