At the very least, get the photos out of the frame and into acid-free folders.  Be sure you mark the accession numbers on both items so that you can put them back together when you do get the money to frame them properly.

  We have a very large number of photos that are improperly framed with no mat or with a mat that is not acid-free. It will cost a lot of money if we decide to reframe them. I'm wondering what priority we should give this project. Many of the photos have been framed in their current condition since the turn of the century. Will it be worthwhile to reframe them now, or is it the case that the damage is already done by this time?
