I recently joined this listing as a way to receive announcements for job
postings at museums. I found this list on the AMA web page along with other
links and web pages for employment opportunities at museums. When I received
my first days worth of 50+ postings I was rather confused, surprised, and
frustrated to receive such a large amount of email that was messages of
bickering about the proper use of the list, forwards, and commentary on world
problems. I am rather surprised by such a use for a list that has been
endorsed by the AMA as a source for job postings, but more so I am rather
offended by some of the statements in terms of recent college graduates and
people trying to break into the museum scene. I will have to agree with the
message that noted "Had I received such a slap on the wrist for asking what I
thought was a worthwhile question, I would probably have wondered if I had
chosen the right career path to trod down!" This is just a kind reminder that
there are people reading and not responding and fit the description of what
you may be discussing. How the list is utilized creates what it is and today
over half of the postings I received were arguments about the use of the
list—no resumes and only a few job postings.

I am sending this as a 'new-comer' and I guess a statement for my
understanding of what the list was advertised to be. My impression was that
this was a list to assist in finding job openings and yet I have more email
about how this may not be not the place to find a job. May I suggest that the
list be used for what it is advertised as—a source for job opportunities and
museum information.

Many apologies for contributing to more email not relating to a museum job or information.
