Sounds to me like you have a structure that seems unique to transportation  
museums, which have equipment issues far beyond what my art & history museum  
deals with. (But I volunteer with a RR museum on weekends, which has a similar  
model to what you describe.)
 
I'd bet big railroad and air museums could help - check out the California  
State RR Museum in Sacramento - they are huge and very professional. I can get  
other leads if you need them from my RR buddies.
