Registrar
The Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center

The Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center (IHMEC) is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Holocaust by honoring the memories of those who were lost and by teaching universal lessons that combat hatred, prejudice and indifference. The museum fulfills its mission through the exhibition, preservation, and interpretation of its collection of over 12,000 objects and through education programs and initiatives that foster the promotion of human rights and the elimination of genocide.

We are currently seeking a professionally trained Registrar to join our collections and exhibitions team. The ideal candidate will possess strong computer, time management, organizational, planning, problem-solving and verbal and written communication skills.  He/She will be detail-oriented, flexible and have the ability to manage multiple priorities, work well individually and as part of a team.  The successful candidate must be comfortable interacting with other Museum staff, donors, lenders and vendors.

The Registrar will be responsible for the documentation, safety and security of objects in the Museum's care, including the permanent collection, loaned objects, and temporary exhibitions. As a member of the Collections and Exhibitions Department, the Registrar will report directly to the Curator of Collections and Exhibitions and will work in close collaboration with the Exhibitions Manager.  The Registrar will also be responsible for supervising departmental interns and volunteers.

Additional responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Registration

 *   Updating and implementing collections policies and procedures, including disaster and emergency plans;
 *   Creating and maintaining all collections documentation and files, including incoming and outgoing receipts, loan agreements, deeds of gift, deaccession forms, and check requests;
 *   Corresponding with donors, lenders, and vendors;
 *   Responding to collection inquiries and providing access to collections for other departments and researchers;
 *   Inputting information about incoming loans, new acquisitions, and deaccessions in KeEmu collections management system;
 *   Determining and coordinating appropriate methods of packing and shipping for incoming loans and new acquisitions;
 *   Working with preparators to oversee truck unloading and loading;
 *   Maintaining IHMEC facilities report and reviewing borrower's facilities reports;
 *   Planning and implementing collections inventory;
 *   Processing requests for rights and reproduction.

Collections Management

 *   Maintaining museum collections storage area and collection supplies;
 *   Coordinating unpacking, packing, and condition reporting, including digital photography;
 *   Assigning loan and accession numbers and determining appropriate methods of applying accession numbers to objects;
 *   Helping to coordinate the work of the Collections Committee;
 *   Serving as courier as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
*         Bachelor's degree in art history, museum studies or related field, or comparable work experience.  Master's degree is preferred;
*         At least five years museum registration and/or collections management experience.  Including advanced knowledge of museum registration methods, art handling, packing, condition reports, fine art insurance, storage maintenance, transportation, collections care and storage requirements and collections management;
*       KeEmu and Microsoft Office experience preferred.
