Job Title:            Exhibit Preparator

                                     

  

                                


JOB SUMMARY


 

The Exhibit Preparator will perform various functions as related to the
development, design, fabrication, installation, conservation and
maintenance of exhibits and collections in the museum, period rooms
within the historic buildings, and with off-site exhibits and
collections in support of the Curatorial Department for exhibit and
educational activities. This is a full time position with benefits which
reports to the Chief Curator and will occasionally be required to work
hours other than the regular schedule including nights, weekends, and
holidays.  


 


 


ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


 

*	Design, develop, fabricate and install exhibits, both permanent
and traveling.
*	Assist in the writing and production of label copy and or
graphic images in-house.
*	Research historical information pertaining to exhibit theme and
or objects on display.
*	Prepare exhibit brochures, gallery guides, bulletins, etc.
*	Install temporary exhibits that are on loan and create
interpretive label copy.
*	Monitor and assist in the cleaning and maintenance of all
exhibits in museum as well as artifacts in the historic structures.
*	Clerical and technical tasks in association with exhibit
operations.
*	Order exhibit supplies, materials and equipment.
*	Prepare reports and budgets for exhibit projects.
*	Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

 


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES  


 


This job has limited supervisory responsibilities and works with other
staff and volunteers in a team environment for exhibit installation and
conservation of collections. 


 


 


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


 

*        Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university with a
degree in History, Science, Art, Museum Studies or related field. 

*        Excellent language and writing skills.

*        Able to understand the proper handling, packing, care, display
and cleaning of historic artifacts. 

*        Experience in exhibit preparation and management.

*        Experience with power tools and ability to fabricate various
exhibit components.

*        Safety conscious.

*        Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

*        Able to communicate clearly and effectively in positive or
negative situations both verbally and in writing.

*        Demonstrated experience in a teamwork environment with the
ability to remain flexible.

*        Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite, as well as ability in
learning, using and maintaining other software programs such as Past
Perfect, Photoshop and Microsoft Publisher. 

 

 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS


 

*        The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

*        Able to work in public and non-public environments and be
safety conscious as well as considerate of public guests as well as
staff.

*        May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule
including nights, weekends, and holidays.

*        Able to work in heat and a variety of indoor and outdoor
situations as historic buildings are not air conditioned or heated.
