*Fall 2008 Internship, National Postal Museum, Preservation Office,
Collection Management Department.*

 This is a non-paid internship located in the Preservation Office in the
Collection Management Department. The intern would start around the 1st week
of September, work two days a week, days flexible, hours between 8:30am –
5:00pm. It is a great opportunity for someone looking for object handling
experience. The objects will be both 3-D and 2-D.

*Description*

 The primary duty will involve helping to re-house and inventory objects in
storage at the Museum during the move and reorganization of collection
storage for the installation of a mobile storage system. The secondary duty
will be working off-site with 3-D material. Other duties will include:
acquisition documentation, object labeling, and TMS (The Museum System) data
entry.  There will be the opportunity to assist with the installation of the
new Alphabetilately<http://www.postalmuseum.si.edu/Alphabetilately/index.html>exhibition
opening in September 2008. Work will be under the supervision of
the Preservation staff.

*Learning opportunities*

**Position will afford the opportunity to learn about museum procedures,
object handling, re-housing options, professional practices, registration
methods, exhibition installation procedures, etc.

*Experience/skills*

Candidates should possess an interest in collection/registration work, and
an attention to detail.  Must be a self-starter and willing to take on other
tasks as assigned. Prior object handling experience a plus.
